TICKETS FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY CATHAY/HSBC HONG KONG SEVENS ON SALE FROM 1 OCTOBER

BACK TO NEWS

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) has today announced ticket sale details for the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2026, which will be held at the Kai Tak Stadium from 17-19 April 2026.

Continuing a run of milestones for the world’s best sevens – after ending a 30-year run at the Hong Kong Stadium in 2024 and becoming the first international tournament at Kai Tak Stadium in March – the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026.

From humble beginnings as a one-day event in 1976 – played in front of an (even then) sellout crowd of 3,000 at the Hong Kong Football Club, the Sevens has grown into a three-day extravaganza of sport, fancy dress and music, widely regarded as Asia’s top sporting weekend and one of world sport’s true bucket-list events.

Over five decades, the Hong Kong Sevens has developed an inimitable reputation as a showcase for rugby legends like Jonah Lomu, and a soundstage for some of the world’s biggest music acts from The Beach Boys, Madness and The Wailers to this year’s South Stand set from rockers Kaiser Chiefs.

This year’s Sevens debut at Kai Tak drew 110,907 fans over three pulsating days.

The 50th anniversary Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens promises to deliver another once-in-a-lifetime occasion as the world’s biggest rugby party returns to Asia’s world city.

Chris Brooke, Chairman of Hong Kong China Rugby:

“Having successfully moved into our new home at Kai Tak, Hong Kong China Rugby is very pleased to be launching public ticket sales for the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2026, which will mark the tournament’s 50th anniversary. We once again look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to our amazing city and to hosting a suitably impressive celebration.”

Andrea De Vincentiis, MD, Global Head of Brand Partnerships of HSBC:

“HSBC is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, a cornerstone of the HSBC SVNS Series and a true celebration of rugby’s spirit. Our support for Hong Kong China Rugby spans from nurturing young talent through the grassroots HSBC TRY Rugby programme to supporting the Hong Kong China elite teams, with the Men’s XVs historic qualification for the 2027 World Cup. Following the tournament’s successful move to Kai Tak Sports Park, we look forward to creating another unforgettable event for fans next April.”

Edward Bell, General Manager, Brand, Insights, and Marketing Communications at Cathay:

“The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens was a spectacular first event at Kai Tak Stadium in 2025. This brought Cathay back to the site of our old Kai Tak Airport home, and we celebrated in style with our historic Airbus A350 flypast on the final day of the Sevens.

“In 2025, over 10,000 international visitors attended each day of the Sevens, and we are delighted to again be offering official overseas travel packages to fans around the world, which can be booked at Cathay.com from early October. Cathay has been supporting the Sevens ever since the first edition back in 1976. Roll on a huge 50th anniversary party in 2026!”
