Anniversary year sales rivalling Kai Tak debut with 10 weeks to kick-off

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) has announced that the 100,000th ticket for the 50th Anniversary Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens tournament has been sold. The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will mark its 50th anniversary at the Kai Tak Stadium from 17-19 April 2026.

From humble beginnings as a one-day event in 1976 – played in front of an (even then) sellout crowd of 3,000 at the Hong Kong Football Club, the Sevens has grown into a weekend long extravaganza of sport, fancy dress and music, and is widely regarded as Asia’s top sporting weekend and one of world sport’s true bucket-list events. Over five decades, the Hong Kong Sevens has developed an inimitable reputation as a showcase for rugby legends like Jonah Lomu, and a soundstage for some of the world’s biggest music acts from The Beach Boys, Madness and The Wailers to last year’s South Stand set from rockers Kaiser Chiefs.

Confirming its enduring popularity, organizers Hong Kong China Rugby have confirmed that the event has sold over 100,000 tickets for the 2026 tournament, 10 weeks before the tournament.

“We are delighted to celebrate this ticketing milestone on our journey to the 50th Anniversary Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens. 100,000 tickets are the equivalent of just over 33,000 three-day passes, which means we are well on our way to another bumper crowd for the event. As always, revenues from the Sevens are reinvested in the sport and our community, as we continue to grow the game of rugby in Hong Kong. We are grateful for the support of our fans across Hong Kong, the region and around the world and look forward to welcoming them all to a very special 50th Anniversary in April” said Bryan Rennie, Executive Director of Commercial and Business Operations of Hong Kong China Rugby.

Last year’s Sevens debut at Kai Tak drew 110,907 fans over three pulsating days, (generating an estimated 97 million USD for the local economy), and organizers are confident to exceed that figure with the 50th Anniversary Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens promising to deliver another once-in-a-lifetime occasion as the world’s biggest rugby party returns to Asia’s world city.

In addition to the strong general admission sales, sales of corporate hospitality have also grown year-on-year with HKCR confirming that all corporate patrons' boxes have now been sold for 2026. Capacity has also been reached for the individual hospitality in the Captain’s Lounge (priced at HK$18,250). Any fans who are still looking for an elevated experience can join HKCR’s wait list here.

The South Stand Pass category introduced for the first time last year that offers expedited access to the world-famous Hong Kong Sevens South Stand is also sold out for 2026. Seating in the South Stand remains open to all Adult General Admission ticketholders (aged 18 and over) on a first come, first served basis during the tournament.

The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens is one of three World Championship events on the HSBC SVNS Series and will feature 24 teams (12 men and 12 women). The Melrose Claymores competition will also return, bringing the total of international teams participating inside Kai Tak to 30, including the hometown favourites, the men’s and women’s Hong Kong China Rugby sevens squads.

The 2026 Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.

Prices for three-day General Admission Hong Kong Sevens 2026 tickets are HK $2,250 for adults. Three-day General Admission child tickets are available for HK $1,100 (aged 12 and under).

The Sevens’ general admission seating policy will remain in force, with tickets in all non-corporate or non-tournament seating areas inside the stadium being open on a first come, first served basis over the event weekend.

Tickets will also be sold on a first come, first served basis, and while supplies last.
