HKRFU and viagogo celebrate successful first tournament as partners

viagogo, the world's largest source of live event tickets, and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) are celebrating a successful debut tournament as partners, following March's thrilling Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
In December 2014, the HKRFU and viagogo launched an authorised platform for buying and selling unwanted tickets securely to premier international matches and tournaments in Hong Kong, including for the first time the Hong Kong Sevens. The objectives of the partnership were to provide a secure service for rugby fans to find tickets once the event had sold out, to reduce ticket resale on the street and on unauthorized websites, and to make tickets more accessible to HKRFU's international fanbase.
Prior to the partnership, nearly 90% of ticket resale for the Hong Kong Sevens took place on the street or on unauthorized websites, where there is no consumer protection, nor any recourse for disappointed fans that have been sold a fraudulent ticket or never received their tickets.
Vern Reid, Chief Executive Officer of the HKRFU, said: "We are delighted that our first tournament in partnership with viagogo has delivered such tangible benefits. viagogo has helped to protect our fans from the black market and attracted new fans from all over the world to the Hong Kong Sevens, who have bought tickets through viagogo's network of nearly 60 global websites."
He added: "Since we started working with viagogo, we saw a dramatic reduction of at least 50% in the number of sellers on the street during the event, while ticket listings on unauthorized websites have also fallen significantly. That means more people have been buying tickets safely through our official new channel from viagogo, which offers a 100% guarantee, meaning all viagogo buyers entered the stadium without any issue at all."
Steve Roest from viagogo said: "We are delighted that our partnership with the HKRFU has already had such a positive impact for Hong Kong Sevens fans all over the world. In addition to raising the bar on consumer protection, we have also widened access to the game with fans from more than 50 countries buying tickets to this year's tournament on viagogo. More than 200 people per day also took advantage of viagogo's Last Minute Sales service, which enabled them to buy tickets just hours before the tournament and pick them up at the stadium.
