Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens – FAQ’s

Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens – FAQ’s

16 November 2021

Why did you postpone the April 2022 event?

Whilst we have been consistent in our belief that we can stage a safe tournament in April 2022, this also requires confidence that all participating teams will be able to travel to Hong Kong for the tournament, which we are not able to predict for April given ongoing travel restrictions and inbound quarantine. When offered the opportunity by World Rugby to reschedule to November, we felt it was in the best interest of the tournament, teams and fans to take it.

What about April 2023?

We will be back to our usual spot in April 2023!

What does this mean for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series schedule?

A replacement for the 2022 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will be announced in due course, and the November 2022 edition of the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will open the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. It’s set to be a fantastic year of rugby sevens action with the Commonwealth Games in July and the Rugby World Cup Sevens in September 2022.
