The 2016 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, organised by the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU), marks the 41st year of sevens in Hong Kong, with 120,000 visitors expected to attend the event.
The world-famous Hong Kong tournament retains its status as the largest on the HSBC Sevens World Series (HSBC SWS), confirming the tournament's billing as being "Where the World Comes to Play".
Sixteen international teams will contest the HSBC SWS core team competition while an additional 12 teams contest the international qualifier for a chance at promotion to the international series in 2017.
The 15 core teams on the HSBC SWS return to delight the fans in Hong Kong as the world's finest exponents of world seven-a-side rugby. Fiji are the defending Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens champions after their 33-19 victory over New Zealand in last year's cup final.

*Cayman Islands will make its debut in 2016, becoming the 58 th nation to take part in the Hong Kong Sevens, Where the World Comes to Play.
The official tournament draw for all 28 participating teams will take place in Hong Kong on 14 March 2016.
With women's rugby gaining in stature every year, 12 international women's teams will compete in the 2016 Hong Kong Women's Sevens.
Once again, the final will be played in the main stadium on the opening day of the tournament, Friday, in the evening.
Friday will also see two rounds of the qualification pool matches played alongside the opening pool matches of the HSBC SWS core competition in Hong Kong (one match per core team).
