The 2016 Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens took another step forward in the realm of technology, continuing investment in world class digital assets. Partnering with global consulting firm
Accenture, 2016 saw the release of the first HKSevens App. The app offered real time updates to fans, including push notifications for upcoming matches, and real time results, downloadable on iOS and Android smartphone devices.

The digital push started in 2015, with the re-launch of hksevens.com as a mobile responsive website, showcasing one of the rugby world's most iconic tournaments. Aside from a complete visual design refresh (which was updated again in 2016 to celebrate the event's carnival atmosphere in the lead in to rugby at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro) mobile usability was improved dramatically, and a new Match Schedule section was updated in real time to keep fans up to speed during the weekend.
The company responsible for the design of the new website, Hong Kong web design and development agency Digital Butter, commented on the HKRU's investment in the digital space.

As the birthplace of international Rugby Sevens, The Hong Kong Sevens intends to continue it's focus on offering one of the world's best rugby spectacles, both on and off the pitch.
